Bloggaaja treffit

Of cource it came up that none of the Würzburg bloggers can understand what I write here... I've been thinking about what it would be like to write in English for a while. On the other hand, writing about the German culture in a language that Germans understand takes half the fun out of it :), but on the other hand, it might be interesting to get the local opinions and explanations in the comments. Let me know what you think. An English October?

English would be grat, just because I have not found even one translator finnish <-> german or finnish <-> english

Or what about an Franconian October? Talking about Zwiebelblootz and Federweißen, Geknickte mit and Schoppenexpress?
Your finnish friends would be very impressed! ;-)

Hyvää iltaa, Ralf ... :)

Hyvää iltaa Phil, Ralf and all.

Phil, this is not very good one but might be useful: translator.

My friend started to keep his expatriateblog in Romania in Finnish but turned soon to English cause he had plenty of international friends.

I don't know if it was a bad idea but not many Finn-friends are commenting there anymore..

Juho, perhaps you should try some of your articles in English oder auf Deutsch, then you will see.

Maybe You can try to write in finnish and english, if it's not too much work for You ;)

Joo. Samaa mieltä.

Suomeksi vain. Unohda saksa, unohda englanti.

And same in English. Yes, please. More.

Hej Juho, that's a great idea to write in english in the oktober!
So everybody can read what you're writing about us ;-)

Thanks for all the comments. That brought up a few ideas.

A couple of comments though:

I'd rather not write in both languages. Writing the same thing twice is just not fun anymore. I could of cource write articles 50-50 but it wouldn't make out to be a nice blog anymore.

And why do I just not change the language right away? I think a blog should be a bit like a lifestyle magazine: It should have it's own style in its language and its subjects. It is also not written for everybody: there's always a target group. I read Playboy, she reads Cosmopolitan type of thing.

Writing in English would broaden the target group. If now I'm writing about how "normal life" is weird here in Germany (trust me it is :). I do not have to explain to my readers, how life is in Finland. They know it anyways. If I'd write in English without explaining the Finnish way of life, you either would not find it funny, or would think I've gone mad, because I find every visit to the Metzgerei next door an adventure.

Further it would be challenging to keep up the same style in two languages in a blog. It would also change the form and fashion of my articles: I'd always have to explain things in more detail and spend more energy in making sure people do not misunderstand me...

So writing in English in this blog would have to be limited in time. Either as I earlier said, an English october, or in the fashion of an English weekday... (for example writing an article once a week in English always on the same day: too bad blogger.com does not support categorizing.) We'll see. Let me know what you think of an English weekday?

Oh yeah, you Würzburgers might find it fun to take a look at the blogs in the same gender.

Too bad Marja is not updating her blog anymore..? Also Finland for thought is a blog that goes vice versa. Through the eyes of an american though.

(these I've never read, but seem to be close to the subject):
Ich und mein Leben in Finnland
ein halbes Jahr in Helsinki
Finnland Tagebuch

Hämeen murteella, kiitos. Muista, että kirjoitat blogia koska haluat kertoa kuulumisia Suomeen ja pitää yllä suomen kielen taitoasi.
